Anchorage has lots of glaciers, mountains and wildlife to see. But ANC is the spot to see airplanes. As the world’s 6th-busiest cargo airport and one of the nation’s busiest airports overall, ANC is a terrific place to spot the big planes. We even get the occasional visit from the world’s largest aircraft, the Antonov An-225 Mriya.
At nearby Lake Hood, you can see the float planes glide in for water landings or taking off with a roar to venture into the wilderness. Lake Hood is also a great place to book a flightseeing tour of Denali or other Alaska beauty.
Take advantage of the pullouts along Postmark Drive, Northern Lights Boulevard, and Pt. Woronzof Road for the best views of aircraft arriving and departing. Another great location for viewing is along the fence at the end of South Airpark Place.
