Noise

ANC prioritizes the reduction of aircraft noise on our community. Our staff works closely with FAA air traffic controllers to keep runways operating with optimum aircraft-traffic configurations for noise abatement. This allows most aircraft to arrive and depart using flight paths that take them over the water to the north and west of the airport most of the time.

We strive to keep the public informed of flight-path changes and planned runway closures, but aircraft may be temporarily re-routed over populated areas without advanced notice during adverse weather conditions, emergency runway repairs, aircraft incidents, snow removal, or ice control.  When the north-south runway is closed, flights may be temporarily routed to the east over populated areas. We always work to return aircraft to our normal flight paths as soon as it is safe to do so.

Safety is always the most important consideration in any decision made at ANC, and we re-route aircraft only when it is necessary to do so.

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter for updates on scheduled runway closures.
